The Manifesto

Every one of us has walked by someone who is homeless at one time or another and looked away. Why? Because the problem of homelessness is so big and complicated. We don’t know what to do or how to help.

So we keep walking. But the problem of homelessness in our community isn’t going away. In fact, it’s getting worse.

The Problem

On any given night in the Los Angeles area, at least 90,000 people are homeless. The recession has only made this vast problem worse, over- whelming existing programs and services. Job losses and fore- closures are forcing entire families out into our streets every day.

This year, the number of families seeking shelter and other assistance is up a terrible 300%.

The Solution

Enough is enough.
We’re calling on caring people all across the LA area to join together to end LA’s homelessness in 10 years. Not to put a band-aid on it with feel-good programs. But to end it once and for all.

The Goals

Our goals are ambitious. But working together as a community, we can meet them:

In three years – Cut the number of people living on the streets of Skid Row by 90%.

In seven years – Cut the number of people who are homeless in LA County by 50%.

In 10 years – End Los Angeles’ reign as the Homeless Capital of the United States
